[Salon] UN food rights expert blasts rights council for turning blind eye as Israel 'intentionally starves' Gaza

FM: John Whitbeck

The article at the link transmitted below reports on the undiplomatic honesty and moral clarity of the UN Special Rapporteur on the Right to Food.

Notably, he has branded "absurd" the announced U.S. government intention to build a "temporary port" off the Gaza Coast.

The clarification by the spokesman for the U.S. Defense Department that it will probably take about two months to construct this "port" makes two things clear:

(1) The United States recognizes that it is powerless to convince Israel (if it has ever genuinely tried) to comply with the order of the International Court of Justice to permit unhindered access for humanitarian aid by land.

(2) The United States anticipates and accepts that Israel will continue its genocidal assault against the people of the Gaza Strip for at least another two months.

I am certain that many who read my article in 2021 (https://www.counterpunch.org/2021/05/12/its-not-american-aid-to-israel-its-tribute) offering a heretical view as to which country is dominant in the Israeli/American relationship would have viewed it, in the words of President Bush in another context, as "over the top".

It is difficult to do so today.

Sadly, if even five-months-and-counting of a gruesome genocide at enormous cost to America's own reputation in the world is incapable of producing an American declaration of independence from Israeli domination and control, can there ever be any conceivable hope for American liberation?
